TRACK PREMIERE: HEARTY HAR “RADIO MAN ’56”
Hearty Har is the L.A. outfit led by brothers Tyler and Shane Fogerty with drummer Will Van Santen, and “Radio Man ’56” is their new single dedicated to the interstellar appeal of rock ‘n’ roll. It’s got some of the irresistible ecstatic energy of the Kinks, the loose and wild attitude of 60s garage—”Radio Man” might be the spiritual successor to this potent little track, raucously covered by the mighty Reigning Sound—and some unexpected Terry Riley-derived synthesizer to maybe signify the part where the aliens really get involved. (Plus as the title suggests and Nick Tosches discussed often, ’56 was the year rock ‘n’ roll first broke, and that seems important here, right?) Hearty Har will perform at Brouwerij West‘s PopFuji IV (with L.A. RECORD alums Bombón, Sadgirl and more) on Saturday, Sept. 24, and they’ve got an EP of covers slated for a winter release, as well as a full-length due next year. “Radio Man ’56” is available digitally on Fri., Sept. 15, from all the usual vendors, and we’ve got a few more Hearty Har local-ish dates below!
