I liked that article on Chuck D. And he's one of the few to defend Vanilla Ice. Ice's 1990-1991 success is influential for all the later rap records by Eminem,Jay-Z, Nelly and others to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart. He took it and ran with it! And I'm seeing more respect for his music now than them, far beyond Ice Ice Baby. I think radio liked the pop aspect of his rap style and played him more in 1990 and 1991. He's a lot more street on his other records, but I appreciate Chuck's nod to Ice and even Ice returned the favor by putting him on one of his albums.
