Where do you all live now?
Brian Canning (guitar/vocals): Los Feliz.
What was the first show you ever played as a band? Where was it and when?
We played at the Natural History Museum in January. It was really fun. I had the flu and I hadn’t eaten in five days.
What’s the weirdest show you ever played?
Well, our next show will be our seventh show, I believe, so we really haven’t had the opportunity to play any truly weird shows. All the shows have been pretty weird, though. Good weird. We played a show and Oasis and Coldplay were there—not to see us, I assume, but still that was kind of weird.
Who was the first person you ever sold a record to?
Little Roscoe.
What song do you like to play last in your set and why?
We have a song called ‘Graffiti Artist’ that sounds kind of nice when it ends. Oh, we also do a Brian Eno cover that is really nice to end with.
If you could cover one L.A. band’s song, whose would it be and why?
I would have to say a song by Love—”Alone Again Or”—or maybe Joni Mitchell’s “California.” Oh shit—Leonard Cohen lives in Los Angeles, so “Suzanne.” I really like “Kissing Families” by Silversun Pickups. There is a song the Movies sing called “Get Your Macho Out” and I’ve always wanted to cover that song. Charlie Wadhams has a ton of great songs I wouldn’t mind covering.
What was the last song everyone in the band listened to together?
Shoot, we don’t listen to songs together. You just got me all depressed with that question. Man, we should listen to songs together as a band. Good call.
What is the best album that everyone in the band owns?
I would have to say Slanted And Enchanted by Pavement and Nebraska and Born To Run by the Boss and Alien Lanes by Guided By Voices. Oh, man—I actually just listened to Bridge Over Troubled Water from start to finish and that album just creeped into my top ten of all time.
What would you buy if we gave you $32 and why?
Actually, I owe my friend thirty bucks so I would give the money to her. With the remaining two dollars, I would go to Yucca’s and buy a taco.
What’s the best record any of you scored for $1?
Nebraska—it was still in the plastic, too.

  1. Claire McKeown Says:

I must be a total music bitch/snob and distance myself from all the albums that Brian has accused everyone in the band of owning and loving for that. As if! I own one of them, and like it, but I wouldn’t call it the best. Love you Bri but… I would have picked Pet Sounds or Here come the warm jets, or Hunky Dory, or Transformer, or Odyssey and Oracle. But I guess I would just be projecting too. Sorry, but I couldn’t live with myself if people thought I listened to Pavement.

    WHO IS Captain And Holland?!?!?!?
