Approximately 1/5 of Coachella’s acts are electronic DJs, but you’d never know it from the crowd response! This entire weekend, the Safari tent’s audience swelled far beyond capacity, even worse than the most wretched desert muffin top—and that’s even during the early afternoon, when L.A.’s DESTRUCTO provided plenty of chill vibes, though without the literal waterworks he’d planned. We caught up with him out back of the Coachella press tent, before the famous tent-puking incident of April 14th (more on that later).

There are a lot of bands referencing the past, and that’s a little disturbing to me. I love Deerhunter and Serena-Maneesh, I think they’re great. They strike me as sort of what Medicine was trying to be, this ideal teen makeout music. I think of Roxy Music’s Avalon – was that a precursor to shoegaze because it’s a great makeout album? Maybe!
