VIDEO PREMIERE: BOYO “INSOMNIA”

September 20th, 2017

BOYO is Robert Tilden, once of Bobby T. and the Slackers but now gone solo and gone a little deeper and weirder, too, and this is the first extremely advance single from his next album. "Insomnia" is (naturally) an uneasy, anxious and even melancholy indie song with what the craftspeople among you might call "live edges, always the mark of a true artist. In this video directed by Nathan Castiel, you'll watch as the watcher becomes the watched—literally, actually—and then think about where that leaves you. BOYO's Me, Again will be out on Danger Collective in January 2018, and you can visit BOYO here. Some coming tour dates and full video credits below!

VIDEO PREMIERE: VUG ARAKAS “LINES OF LOVE”

September 5th, 2017

Vug Arakas is the resolute L.A. songwriter—well, originally from Ohio, where they secretly make some of the best rock bands ever—whose painstakingly put-together homemade pop recalls greats like Shoes, the Replacements and even the Mice, and this spontaneously serendipitous song invokes Arakas' characteristically potent mix of resignation, resilience and barely repressed heartbreak from its first Westerberg-ian line: "We're better off this way ..." Arakas will be performing on Sat., Sept. 9, at the Hi Hat with Butch Bastard and L.A. RECORD alum Devon Williams. "Lines of Love" will be released on his forthcoming Restless EP, slated for release on Fri., Oct. 20. As for the way this video found its way to this song, Arakas explains:

VIDEO PREMIERE: B. COOL-AID “BRWN”

September 5th, 2017

Pink Siifu and Ahwlee are formidable visionaries all their own, but when we interviewed Siifu this spring and found out he had a project with Ahwlee on deck, we couldn't wait—and now B. Cool-Aid is here with their debut album BRWN and a movie to go with it that's part day-in-the-life L.A. surface-street cruise, part old-school rap video and part impressionistic visual bliss. It's a perfect companion piece for their heavyweight BRWN LP, a committed burner of an album that's ready to rewire your mind if you let it. The dreamy 16mm BRWN footage was shot by Akashik Records and Tapes' co-founder Alima Lee and directed, produced and edited by Lee and label co-founder Ringgo, a.k.a. MNDSGN. Watch the whole thing because it never stops changing. BRWN is available now from Akashik and comes highly recommended!
