If you like your space rock with a healthy dollop of the Birthday Party and maybe a little Mark E. Smith, this is your jam. There are only two flaws to this EP: it’s not labeled 45 or 33 1/3 RPM (though it sounds good either way), and at only four songs, it’s too short! I wish I could hear more from these ex-Emeralds, who really only provide the full space-rock jam on the title track, and then on each subsequent track get more and more trad-rock, until the very last song, “You Gotta Leave” could almost be called “You Gotta Move.” But there’s something dark here throughout, like a bad hashish experience, and despite the songs’ differences, they feel like they belong together, a rare feat in a world when so many bands opt for samey-samey. This feels like a teaser for more recordings and more live shows to come.
