Doom Dong
My Guitar’s on a Mountain in Space
Is it anachronistic to play clever white-boy pop in the second decade of the 21st century? If not, these guys do it well, with chimey, crunchy guitar hooks, Everly Brothers harmonies, and an occasional nod to Weezer and Pavement at their naughtiest. Their first song, “Disconnected Heart,” even sounds geared to capture an 80s Jesus and Mary Chain ethos, but don’t be fooled–these cats are record collectors, and the true struggle between melody and harmony here is the struggle between being clever and being cool.
