Interpol – Turn on the Bright Lights

It’s gorgeous! What a sound. We got to tour with them and it was a real treat. They totally deserve everything!

 Goldfrapp – Felt Mountain

They must have spent bazillions on gear. You can hear some serious tinkering going on. Great sounding record. Holy shit!

 The Black AngelsPassover

Funny story: I get a lot of demos. I got maybe 40-50 the year before this came out. Nearly all are terrible. One in this stack was called “Orwell” with a strawberry printed on it?! Probably the worst band name and artwork I’ve ever seen. Turned out to be one of the best new psychedelic bands in the last decade. I frantically wrote these guys back: “You guys are great, but please change your name!”

Beach House – everything

Talk about bad band name. Yeeesh! Boy, was I wrong. Good stuff. Reminds me of the Cocteau Twins.

 Ariel Pink – everything

Man, what a weirdo, and to think he’s been here the WHOLE time. Some truly out-there recordings. Call it 80s AM lo-fi—it can’t even be easily categorized. Genius! I’ve seen Ariel play now about 8-10 times. Every show is totally different. Ariel reminds me of like an audio Picasso or something.

Secret Machines – Now Here Is Nowhere

Say what you will about these guys, but that first album is really good!

Dead Meadow – Feathers

Whew…some seriously dreamy tunes on here. It’s psychedelic, it’s shoegaze (god, I hate that word!), it’s everything.  It’s brilliant!

Radiohead – Kid A

The weird thing is, this is the only Radiohead album I like. I know, what?!

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven

I only have a burn of this. I would love to have one, but can you own one? I have yet to go to Amoeba and see this in stock. You have no idea who is in this band or anything. Or what the hell, just try and read their wiki and make sense of this band. Terrorist?!! What?

The Kills – Keep on Your Mean Side

Am I wrong about these guys? I think the Kills are great! This album especially. Maybe it’s that Vogue approach they are into these days. I don’t know. I still think this record is great.

Didn’t you almost get booed off the stage at an Interpol show at the Palladium in Hollywood? Yea, I was there and I won’t let you forget about it(:

@ Alexander Lovo: Hendrix got booed off stage when playing with the Monkees…so your point is?

  • 4 Monica // Feb 19, 2010 at 1:54 pm

His point is… very few make it like Hendrix after getting booed off :p

@ Monica: Actually, he didn’t have a point–he was just trying to make a snarky comment. It sucks that sometimes people feel the need to waste energy on being negative. Sure, it’s rare that people will get to Hendrix (or even Monkees) fame levels, but it’s even rarer to be at a show where every audience member is going to dig each band on a concert bill. It’s the ones that boo and waste the negative energy whom I feel sorry for.

    Bobby rules…
negativity sucks, & “The Mirror Explodes” is a pretty awesome album.
So where can we send demos?
