VOICEs VOICEs Outside Sounds EP, self-released
myspace.com/wearevoicesvoices

Los Angeles has one of the most exciting music scenes going on in the world right now and in the center of all this is the darling female duo, Voices Voices. VV’s new offering comes in a slick packaged, self-released 4 song ep Outside Sounds. The EP was recorded live in an art gallery which gives the recordings an incredibly natural and big sound. There’s much to love here. The first track is “Tape Moon,” the first song a person should hear—I think it best captures what VV’s doing. “Tape Room” is romantic and warm and simple but heavy; it takes me back to listening to Tristeza pluck away but also has a raw sonic edge like Spacemen 3 from their oldest days. The vocals are no more important than the drums or the keys—each sounds comes unrushed and perfectly happy in its role, coming together to make the beautiful creature ready to play very loud while we drink and smoke with our mates at two in the morning. What’s up with a full-length?

These girls are AMAZING! Glad you’re giving them the exposure.

Couple things. Album is “Sounds Outside EP” and the track you’re thinking of is “Tape Noon”. You have Tape moon and Tape room.

Great review though. Just thought I’d point that out.

Los Angeles has one of most interesting music scene going on in the world, Voices Voices are in the top 10 of up coming bands/new artist that will blow your mind.

“Tape Noon” is one of their best songs, best thing about Voices Voices is seeing them live in a place like The smell club in l.a. where you can enjoy the music and be taken away by it….

  • 3 caity // Mar 25, 2009 at 4:39 pm

this is the most stupidest thing i have ever heard

  • 4 Beary White // Mar 25, 2009 at 7:05 pm

What the fuck? This band is just plain rotten and is no where near the center or the top of the LA music scene. Shame on you David Garcia for writing such lies. And, I’m sure the comments above are written by the band themselves.

  • 5 GT // Mar 26, 2009 at 2:55 pm

Nah, man, Voicesvoices is the shit. Shame on you Beary White for being an asshole.

  • 6 Leisha // Mar 26, 2009 at 3:01 pm

Wait, Cait? From Barry, Canada? J’s ex bandmate’s ex gf? Low, low, low.

  • 7 Bing Satellites // Mar 26, 2009 at 3:46 pm

This is a terrific EP – beautiful, eerie and original.
I can’t wait to hear more from these two.

  • 8 EXITMUSIC // Mar 26, 2009 at 3:57 pm

VOICEsVOICEs is one of the best, most original, most talented bands in L.A.

Fuck the haters. You will get yours.

if nothing else, they are fantastic at self promoting.

  • 10 Kyle // Mar 26, 2009 at 4:33 pm

VV is great regardless of which city they choose to thrive in. thanks for picking LA.

  • 11 goldie // Mar 26, 2009 at 4:44 pm

Voices Voices – Yeah! I’ve seen them at the Echo a couple of times and they’re BADASS. Picked up their EP. LOVE it! Can’t wait for their full length…

  • 12 Sky // Mar 26, 2009 at 5:55 pm

They found their way up to Seattle recently (thanks for sharing, LA) and put on an absolutely wonderful show. Agreed that the EP is fabulous, but their live performance really _must_ be experienced. Thanks again VV for bringing your unique sounds to our corner of the world.

Great review L.A. RECORD. From the first time I saw VV at The Echo some months back I’ve been totally hooked. They represent everything you’d hope to find in a city well known for it’s fertile music scene. They’re bold, different and brilliant.

  • 14 HappyLand // Mar 26, 2009 at 6:57 pm

Hands down one of the best bands to come out of the Echo Park scene. Beyond being fabulous artists, they are sweet individuals, and it’s been a pleasure watching them evolve. These ladies are going to go far far far.

Beary White & Caity(who commented negative above) must have never seen a Voices Voices show, cause if they would have they’d know that Jenean is one of the best drummers you’ll find in the Los Angeles Music scene and Nico just amazing on the guitar & Vocals – their music is fresh, exiting and something you can compare to artist’s as Vangelis or Enigma.
These girls are very creative & hard working with their PR to mention as well. They are a perfect example of what PR a band/artist can succeed with. Seriously you won’t find any other band in town that knows how to PR as well as VV.

Beside don’t they say your not success full until people are jealous, so take that Beary White & Caity…!!!!

    we love VsVs sooo…

    Simply Brilliant.

  • 17 BRASS TACKS PRESS // Mar 26, 2009 at 11:14 pm

Their music is subtle and beautiful… and sometimes scares me late at night.

  • 18 not the government // Mar 27, 2009 at 12:10 pm

their music can’t be for everyone. otherwise i wouldn’t like it so much, but you will lose arguments if you try to say they aren’t talented, hard working, friendly, and a stylistic bull’s eye.

  • 19 Tracy // Mar 29, 2009 at 7:03 pm

Caity and Beary… Um first off, get real names. Then stop posting retarded comments on a very proffessional and talented band whose rising prominence in the LA music scene is undeniable. Most stupidest? Really? Really?
Oh and sorry darling(to the writer of this review) but the ep is called “Sounds Outside” and the song is called “Tape Noon”.

  • 20 Stefan // Mar 30, 2009 at 9:31 pm

Just go see their live show. See it as many times as you can, because they are that good. I also can not wait for a full length record.

Just saw these guys opening up for prefuse 73 in Columbus Ohio. While very talented, atleast the drummer/vocal, are we really at a point to say that anyone who can operate a loop machine is an artist? What happened to music that is well written and intelligible? Seriously, for people who love this type of music, go to an elementary school and give the students loop machines and some random instruments and get ready to be blown away.

  • 27 random // Feb 23, 2010 at 12:56 am

prefuse uses samplers as well, br0-dad

AC has written some pretty complicated shit with samplers… wanna try?

  • 28 Zoomorphik Native // Mar 23, 2010 at 11:48 pm

i like this band, i find it energetic and inspiring, i like the vocals and the energy these artists are putting out, atmospherics are amazing, the drumming compliments everything.

who wastes their time putting negativity into the world when there is art to create and love to be made? look in the mirror haters, you hate yourself.
