VIDEO PREMIERE: KEVIN “BIKE”

L.A. trio Kevin—much like L.A. trio Susan—is a band with the name of a person and a lot of personality, too, and their new video "Bike" is an blown-out visual acid-bath that's a perfect fit for those local summer days when the asphalt starts melting and the sidewalks get too hot to touch. TRACK PREMIERE: JESS JOY “FINALLY BLOOMING”

Jess Joy's "Finally Blooming" is a song that's all acrobatics and loop-de-loops, or if you want to use the metaphor from the song itself, it's one of those endlessly climbing twisting flowering vines that start from nothing and grow so wild and fast they turn whole buildings into vertical gardens. Joy wrote "Blooming" to music by drummer/composer Mike Byrne—a former Smashing Pumpkin who also backed Sky Saxon of the Seeds, interviewed here—to process tumult personal and political, including both the 2016 election and the dissolution of her band Moon Honey (reviewed here), and after plenty of study and introspection she was able to find solid ground and grow. As she explains:
